I want to talk about choosing the correct vehicle for your skiing vacation, because getting this wrong can lead to headaches and hassles during your vacation. Now, you can be like my most recent holiday guests at the High Country Lodge and rent a rear wheel drive passenger vans… and then spend most of your vacation in the ditch or pushing your vehicle.
So, here are my suggestions to get the most out of your vacation and not be on the phone with our local tow truck company:
- Make sure it has all-wheel drive (AWD)
- Choose a vehicle with high clearance, like a Cadillac Escalade or similar (the Escalade has both high clearance and AWD).
Since both of my rental homes are above the Ski area, we are hoping for tons and tons of snow. You can get away with a Subaru or Audi AWD, but as with this last storm we got over 2 feet of snow in the overnight hours so having high clearance will get you to the resort when you’re ready.
Please do not rent any type of rear wheel drive vehicle and expect to get to either my homes. Yes, they are less expensive but your vacation time is priceless, and you should spend it with your friends and family Skiing instead of waiting for a tow truck.
Be safe and hope to see you soon.
Bye for now….
